Virtual team-building with a community-driven organization

Learning how to leading change with Vancity Credit Union
Vancity Credit Union’s leadership team in their member-serving operations department was experiencing a unique challenge as the COVID-19 pandemic shifted. New team members had been added, remote work had been standard, many operations had shifted to become digital, yet the team didn’t feel a sense of coherence or belonging. Our team at Co.school was asked to provide virtual training, leadership development and team-building sessions to a series of teams throughout the organization.

Together with Vanity, we co-designed a series of leadership and team development sessions for four cohorts, and led virtual and hybrid sessions on the topics of leading through complexity and change and team dynamics.

Through well-selected frameworks, we helped leaders understand the system they lead within, teaching through Dee Hock’s ‘chaordic path,’ and Barry Oshry’s theories of organizational systems. All sessions were delivered virtually, yet for each cohort, emphasis was placed on helping strengthen the team's connection with each other.

The end results were evaluated through a feedback instrument deployed digitally, and more than 95% of participants stated the learning experiences met or exceeded the goals.
“Co.school has been an amazing partner to work with. We engaged with them on dual purpose sessions aimed at strengthening our understanding of managing through change and getting to know each other better. They delivered sessions that met our specific needs, were engaging to participate in, and left us with steps that we could take on our own to continue what we started together. Would highly recommend them!”
